The service department at Backstage Music is able to do just about any guitar or amplifier repair. We are an authorized Fender service center, and our techs are Fender factory certified. (Sorry, we don't work on keyboards or do finishing/refinishing of instruments.)
One area we are proud to offer is tube amp restoration and service. We specialize in Fender amplifiers, but we repair almost any make. (Some inexpensive brands have limited parts availability, and repairs are, unfortunately, cost prohibitive.) We also keep on hand most parts and tubes needed for repair and restoration work. If you like to do your own work and need parts, we'll probably have in stock the parts you'll need. With few exceptions, there isn't a Fender or Peavey part we can't provide. Handles, logos, grill cloth, tolex, tweed, etc.......... the sky's the limit!
Our labor rate is
$40 an hour. Most repairs can be completed in an hour or less.
Below is a list of typical repair jobs and modifications, and an average
cost for each job.
| Set up (6 string acoustic or standard electric) | $25.00 |
| Set up (12 string,classical, locking tremolo) | $35.00 |
| Bone nut installation | $60.00 |
| Bone saddle installation | $30.00 |
| Pickup installation (acoustic) | $50.00 |
| Pickup installation (electric) | $30.00 |
| Restring | $10.00 |
| Restring and clean | $15.00 |
| Service amplifier (clean controls, set bias, etc.) | $30.00 |
| Refret | $200.00 |
| Refret a guitar that has neck binding | $300.00 |
| Bridge reglue (acoustic) | $60.00 |
| Typical brace repair (acoustic) | $45.00 |
These are average prices, and actual repair costs vary from instrument to instrument. The cost of strings and pickups are not included in the above prices, and we stock all the cool brands of strings. Some refrets require more fingerboard work than others, so an evaluation may be required for an exact price.
Many of our customers bring their guitar or amplifier by the store for a free evaluation. An acoustic guitar that is hard to play can usually be turned into a joy to play by having a set up done on the instrument. Lowering the action (lowering the strings), dressing the bridge or nut as needed, and adjusting the neck, as needed, are all part of a basic setup, and may turn that guitar you've been wanting to get rid of into that guitar you've always wanted.
Most electric guitars need a set up every few months, if they're played very often. Having the neck adjusted and the intonation correctly set is part of the basic setup for an electric guitar, and will correct most or all of those "off-sounding" notes that seem to develop over time.
Older guitars with heavy wear on the fingerboard, and frets that have flat wear patterns are not lost causes. In most cases, those deep depressions in a fingerboard can be repaired, and the repair is usually undetectable. Badly worn frets can make a guitar almost unplayable, and a refret job can bring the guitar back to it's original glory.
If you'd like to know what our service department can do to make your guitar or amp as enjoyable and as playable as possible, please bring it by our store for a free evaluation. If you prefer, you're welcome to contact Tony by email or by calling 662-323-3824.
