G&L Tribute Black Comanche, New, SN 7620
This exact guitar weighs 8.7 pounds.
We love the G&L Comanche. Think of a G&L Legacy, but with Z-Coil pickups instead of the usual straight single coils. Z-Coils are genuine single coil pickups, but they are silent. You read that right: SILENT SINGLE COILS.
You know the up-side of a humbucker is that it's silent, none of the annoying hum that's bred into single coils. The down-side of the humbucker is it doesn't really sound like a single coil, it's... well, it's different.
The Z-Coil is the remedy for the common single coil pickup. This Leo Fender designed pickup sounds like a single coil (because that's what it is), without the annoying hum.
All that Z-Coil goodness mixed with an expander switch make this a truly unique guitar.
I mentioned the expander switch. Only the G&L Comanche has it. What this switch (disguised as a push/pull pot) does is make the middle pickup position switchable between a middle-pickup-on and middle-pickup middle-pickup-off. This means you can have either all three on in the middle, or a neck/bridge combo on. No other guitar has that option.
All photos are of the exact guitar we are selling, which is serial number ending 7620. The weight of this guitar was measured using a Pennsylvania triple-beam scale. The somewhat dull appearance of the pickguard is due to a protective film over the guard. We leave that on to protect the pickguard while it is on display in our store.
Here's what the good folks at G&L have to say about the Comanche:
The G&L Comanche® is Leo’s final word on the traditional double-cutaway bolt-on axe. Fact is, the first thing you’ll notice about the Comanche is the distinctive shape of the Magnetic Field Design™ Z-Coil™ pickups designed by Leo Fender† himself. These pickups deliver a bright and sparkly top end while offering a robust bottom end, all without any 60-cycle hum.
You’ll find plenty of power in the Z-coil pickups, but what’s surprising is how glassy and detailed they become as you roll back the volume and bass controls, the latter a part of the Comanche’s PTB™ (Passive Treble and Bass) system. What’s more, the Tribute® Series Comanche includes an expander switch on the treble pot to allow neck+bridge or all three pickups together. In a pinch, the neck+bridge combo does a convincing faux ASAT® Special. Talk about versatile!
The new G&L Tribute Series Comanche features one of Leo’s favorite pairings: the power of MFD pickups mellowed by the high porosity of a mahogany body. Making the most of this delicious combo is Leo’s Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, a work of engineering art which allows bending up or down with unsurpassed stability while offering a silky feel through its beefy aluminum vibrato arm.
The Comanche was the very last double-cutaway bolt-on guitar designed by Leo Fender, the culmination of everything he had learned during his amazing lifetime. And now, it’s available at a price within reach of every working musician. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back.
